One of the aspects I remember many will appreciate is that although written past acclaimed mentalist, expert on trunk language and not-verbal communication Henrik Fexeus information technology is written in a highly accessible and conversational mode and would work perfectly as an introduction to the topic equally no prior knowledge is required in order to proceeds a good agreement of the ins and outs discussed here.
Originally published in his native Sweden in 2007, The Art of Reading Minds is divided into twelve curt, pithy chapters. They are every bit follows: Mind Reading!?; Rapport; Rapport in Practice; Senses and Thinking; Emotions; It's Never Likewise Late; Be a Human being Lie Detector; The Unconscious Pickup Artist; Look Deep into my Eyes; Booty Anchors; Testify Off, and Mind Reading!!
It focuses on how understanding the signals people unknowingly emit tin can pb to a much more profound understanding of others and how to influence their behaviour. The way it is written allows you to dip in and out at will and the tips and tricks were fun as well as illustrating the point the author was trying to make. This is an informative and utterly fascinating volume and i I highly recommend. Many thank you to St Martin's Essentials for an ARC.

The volume is around 256 pages divided into 12 chapters. The capacity' lengths are brusk and suitable for the genre. The author has also included the references he has used in writing his volume.
What is it almost?
It is almost mind reading. I was very curious to know what this book volition talk near hence I decided to read and see what information technology will offer in this area. The start thing the reader has to empathize is that the book says nothing new that has not been saying before as the author suggests. What he means here is that he did non invent something where you tin read the minds of other people. At that place is fifty-fifty a word of alert where the author clearly suggests non to take the contents of this book as considerately truthful. However, he volition teach you techniques that will make things more than interesting if you follow them.
"Any happens to our bodies affects our mental process"
That is the first of import concept to understand that our emotions and thoughts not only happen in our minds but also happen in the whole of our bodies. In other words, if something happens to our bodies, it affects our thoughts also. So the concept that the writer wants you to empathise at the beginning of the book is that you can empathise other people's mental processes & thoughts past observing their physical movements, reactions, and features. It makes sense. We all do this already but it is unconsciously as the writer suggests nosotros can get improve at it if we correctly interpret the trunk language of others in different situations.
I found too the capacity that talk about rapport building very of import. This is something one needs in his daily life. Coming together other people at work or going anywhere to a store, bank, hospital, etc needs you how to deal with other people. If you lot want your things to be washed smoothly rapport building is a crucial thing. He talks well-nigh techniques similar matching and mirroring, exist information technology with body movements or how to exercise that with your voice in different ways or even with your breathing rhythm! The whole concept behind this is that you will put yourself in the same shoe every bit the other person you are communicating with, this will help in getting you both into an agreement or reach a good decision.
"The easiest way to establish an anchor in somebody is to wait until he or she is in the emotional state you're subsequently"
The later chapters hash out anchors, the things that trigger the emotional reactions to a memory. This could be annihilation tangible similar a sweater that reminds you of your grandmother, or a place that reminds you of a certain situation and triggers a specific emotion. The whole thing lets you sympathise how and why planting an anchor is important to achieve the goal.
The volume also has pictures to make you have a better understanding of body linguistic communication like how to read someone from his legs movements or to understand someone's thoughts or emotions from the facial expressions. There is besides how to read fake expressions with some fun exercises.
I volition personally employ and practice some of the techniques suggested here to meet how they will touch my daily life. I feel everybody volition become something if not everything from these techniques. The language of the volume is simple and easy to sympathize and then it should suit a broad range of readers. It is an informative and enjoyable book to read at the same time hence I'chiliad giving information technology four stiff stars out of 5. The book is going to be released on October 15th, 2019.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me a free advanced reading copy (ARC) in render for this honest and unbiased review.

A thousand cheers to NetGalley and St. Martin'due south press for the hazard to read this, in commutation for an honest review.Okay... admittedly, I generally pride myself on being perceptive, a skilful conversationalist, and intent listener, but this book showed me ways in which I could achieve more. And that'due south really what it's here to do: to help you communicate well (or better!).
I actually find trunk language and non-verbal communication fascinating, so I ate upwards every word the author, Henrik Fexeus, wrote. The power of words: what we say, how we say it, who were saying it to... everything is a variable, and everything can be used to "read" someone. I read a book a while ago called Lexicon by Max Barry, which took more of a Scientific discipline Fiction approach to a parallel concept: that y'all could utilise words in a certain way to influence someone. I hateful, I'll acknowledge that I've done it before (never for nefarious or immoral reasons!), only testing different tones of vocalisation, or experimenting with higher/lower energies (mimicking whoever you're speaking with), to meet if my chat partner matches it, and it works! I can steer a conversation in a certain direction by triggering a particular word or phrases. So, yes, I was invested in Mr. Fexeus' volume from the showtime.
I just found it really cool and insightful, on the whole.

This isn't a book about telepathy, clairvoyance, or any other form of ESP. It'south a volume most nonverbal communication, and how to use information technology to both recognize the truthful mental and emotional states of others and to be able to influence said states. It draws on a range of findings and approaches, including those of Paul Ekman, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), Robert Caldini, and Antonio Damasio. The book consists of twelve chapters. The kickoff clarifies the nature of the "mind reading" under discussion. Chapters two and three advise how both nonverbal and verbal communication can be used to build rapport. A lot of the rapport-building capacity are most how ane can subtly mirror some other so as to create an impression of kindredness without freaking the other person out or seeming like one is mocking them. Chapter 4 investigates the function of perception in the processes presented throughout the volume.
Chapter 5 explores emotions. Of course, any "heed reading" of value must capture not just thoughts, simply how the individual feels about (and as a result of) said thoughts. Paul Ekman's work on "leakage" is central to this topic. Ekman discovered that even when people are successful in covering expressions of their true feelings with either a poker-confront or another emotional expression, they often made extremely brief "micro-expressions" of their truthful feelings.
Chapter half-dozen discusses the ethics and morality of this topic. The active exploitation of nonverbal advice tin can bear the stink of being manipulative, and that necessitates consideration of how such activities can blow up in ane's face.
Affiliate seven is about "prevarication detection" and the truth and myth of this topic. Ane thing I liked near this volume is that the writer is quite forthcoming about the limited support for some of the ideas that are conveyed, every bit well every bit the limitations of what these tools tin can practise for one. Many authors of this type of piece of work advise that these tactics are fe-clad scientific discipline, which isn't the example. The most controversial of these approaches is NLP. Neuro-Linguistic Programming has an extremely stalwart following amongst many people ranging from salespeople to therapists. However, NLP has not fared well when subjected to scientific investigation. NLP supporters suggest this is because investigators are fighting a straw man by considering oversimplified claims that were never fabricated past Bandler and Grinder (the NLP founders.) As an example, NLP claims that a person volition tend to look one direction when remembering and another when imagining. Some within the NLP suggest this is the basis of lie detection (if a respondent looks equally though they are imagining versus recalling, they must exist involved in a fabrication.)
Chapter eight delves into the body language of flirting, and educates the reader near how they might be flirting (or being flirted with) without even recognizing information technology. Affiliate ix explores suggestibility and many of ideas that are presented are from hypnosis, though the author isn't explicitly teaching hypnosis.
Chapter x is entitled "Booty Anchors" and it suggests that one can act in sure ways to trigger desired emotional states in another person. The penultimate chapter is about mentalist party tricks that one can use to convince oneself and others of one's abilities, and the last chapter is a conclusion and wrap-up.
The book offers a references section, and includes many graphics (particularly blackness and white photos and diagrams) as necessary to convey examples. Needless to say, a picture is often worth a thousand words when dealing with nonverbal communication.
While I'm skeptical about using some of the approaches presented in this book equally the basis of one'due south behavior, I appreciate that the author is forthcoming almost what is controversial and what is well-supported. Fexeus takes the view that one should try it out for oneself, and draw one'south own conclusions. I as well recall the inclusion of an ethical discussion is essential every bit many of these books come off as kind of creepy – not to mention overblown. If you're looking for a book on nonverbal communication, rapport-building, and persuasion, this ane does a fine job.
...moreOnly once the other person feels camaraderie with you, the existent mind reading begins. Collect bits and pieces of info by observing gestures, posture, eye movements, voice changes, physical contact, and, of form, linguistic communication. While one slice of information can't tell you lot everything you need to know about the person, taken together can y'all get a pretty skilful idea if someone is lying to you, flirting with you lot, hiding a underground, etc.
Fexeus ends with, what can simply exist described every bit, political party tricks. He teaches you how to read people's subtle movements, and then that y'all tin eventually tell who that person is thinking nearly, who she loves, who he dislikes, etc., just by asking a few questions and watching for the physical clues that follow. It'southward pretty cool stuff.
Information technology took me a flake to get through this book, but information technology was still very interesting and informative. I sure would love to see the TED talk version, though. Just sayin. :)

...moreNow all of this information could totally exist used for evil in the hands of the wrong person: manipulation. Because just every bit we can observe others, information technology'south really quite like shooting fish in a barrel to influence other's behavior as well. (aye! Strong assertions hither! Read the book!) The championship of the book really does capture exactly what the book is about!
I enjoyed this and so much! The bits most understanding how our bodies work and display in times of stress, fear, excitement, aroused, etc. was fascinating! I found the bits about establishing rapport with someone very helpful! (Rapport is something that would be benign with a boss or family unit fellow member - someone to whom their presence is a fact of life or a threat.)
Equally per usual with these nonfiction, scientific, psychological books, the data gets actually granular and tedious, but it'south a necessary thing to sympathise the concepts.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.Fexeus does a great job of keeping the book fun past adding humor. He backs up much of the data in the volume with scientific references including a shout out to Pavlov's dogs and their dinner bell. The writer encourages use of his techniques by providing exercises. He covers the importance of establishing rapport, the effect of sensory impressions on thoughts, detecting other's emotions, micro-expressions, signs someone may be lying, telegraphing allure using body language, how to trigger emotional states in 1's self and others, and how to use his techniques as political party tricks.
In the emotions department, Fexeus focuses on surprise, sadness, anger, fear, disgust, contempt, and joy. He includes photos to show how these emotions are expressed using the eyes, oral cavity, eyebrows, and forehead, while reminding the reader of Othello's Mistake. Even if the signs he mentions are seen, other factors may be involved. For instance, detection of an emotion, e.k. acrimony, in another person doesn't mean the acrimony is related to the viewer.
This volume makes for dainty reference tool on body languages and facial expressions. The party tricks might not be for everyone, but having them included adds to the lighthearted approach to the topic.
Cheers to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing an Advance Reader Copy.

I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review.I try to simply get ARC copies of books I might want to ain. I am a rather picky reader; reading countless books on the same topic and generally disliking the majority of them. As a event, some of the ARCs I choose I end up regretting every bit although they are good they aren't as good every bit my favorite books on the topic. This book on the other hand blew me away.
While I haven't read too many books on the topic in general I have read well-nigh a dozen books on NLP and institute most of them to be poorly written; barely communicating anything actionable. This volume on the other hand is an easy read that addresses the topic in a down to globe style. The author besides seeming to accept comprehensive noesis on the topic as well communicates it very well making information technology piece of cake to see the practical implications. He also seems like an honest and expert person which is important as some of the claims in similar books seem hard to believe.
...more thanIt too teaches how to behave others we meet the commencement time or all of a sudden on a roadside or at a park. The way nosotros communicate with others determines our future relationship with others. So understandin This book is all about letting the readers know almost communication without uttering a discussion. It happens to all of us at 1 point in our lives or the other when nosotros say unconsciously how someone beloved to united states can do anything wrong to u.s.. How can he or she hate me? how can he or she deceive me? etc.
It as well teaches how to conduct others we meet the showtime fourth dimension or all of a sudden on a roadside or at a park. The way we communicate with others determines our futurity human relationship with others. And so understanding others' gestures or even complete silence is very important for making the human relationship strong. Techniques discussed in this volume regarding body language and mind reading tin can aid a lot in this regard, yet, these techniques aren't applicable to all and sundry. understanding the psyche of others is very crucial before the application of these techniques. ...more than
(view spoiler)[Henrik Fexeus conspicuously notes early in the book that his book does non teach how to telepathically read minds. The book however gives the tools to identify behaviour patterns and recognize physiological cues to meliorate empathize what someone might be feeling or thinking in response to a particular state of affairs.
Don't be disappointed if yous were hoping that it would help you lot go into the thoughts of others. While this volume doesn't teach that, it is very detailed and instructional in helping to understand someone's eye motion complete with black and white photos, what anchors are and how to plant them to our advantage.
I would recommend this for people along with titles similar Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People and Stephen R. Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Constructive People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change which would also further assistance readers learn about how to best communicate and get what they want out of their relationships and interactions. I volition personally use some of the techniques from this volume to see how they will affect my interactions with people at home, at work and in other spaces.
I as well found it plumbing fixtures that I finished reading this book the same manner I discovered it, that is over brunch. (hide spoiler)]

...more thanStrong points:
- the book is written in an easy style, attainable to the general public
- the author offers numerous applied elements that can exist applied immediately by the reader, in everyday life
- a large reward is the This is the first book by Henrik Fexeus that I read and I give it seven/10. I practise not take much knowledge about this author or nearly Swedish literature, yet, I tin compare this book with other similar works of self-help and practical psychology that I accept read in contempo years.
Stiff points:
- the book is written in an piece of cake style, accessible to the general public
- the author offers numerous applied elements that can be applied immediately past the reader, in everyday life
- a big advantage is the absence of the "stories" found in other self-assist books about spectacular ascents of some people who were initially hopeless, becoming in an unreal, short time very successful people, billionaires (we know these stories are non 100% true, but all lies)
- some of the chapters offer new data (for me at to the lowest degree) that cannot be found in other books (for example, reading emotions based on confront mimicry)
- although short, the bibliography contains essential works to the field of applied psychology, and then this book has a solid theoretical basis
Weak points:
- the main reason why I practice not requite more stars to this book is that the title misleads the reader. As the author states both at the beginning and at the terminate, the "reading of minds" that nosotros, readers expect, is not presented in this book. The author himself acknowledges that the piece of work mainly deals with elements (quite superficial though) well-nigh the interpretation of emotions through changes in the face and torso (body language). Of form, this is a very successful marketing technique that seems to be successful (at to the lowest degree for me, it caused me to read the book).
- I would take preferred the writer to insist on certain parts and I consider that there could be several more applied examples.
Decision:
The book is an easy, fun, accessible reading for a broad audience regardless of historic period or professional training. It includes practical elements useful for everyday life. But at that place remains an important difference between this book and other works in the field of self-help, such equally Dale Carnegie'south books. I recommend reading information technology in pdf format since it is not ane of the essential books of practical psychology to occupy an important place in your personal library.

...more thanBack in my college days, I read several books on nonverbal advice. I remember ane of the books saying that crossing your arms is blocking, the way you cross your legs is either inclusive or exclusive relevant to the person you're talking to, and other basics like that.
